The Probability of Happiness

Green blackboard covered in handwritten equations in white chalk
Adele sat at the kitchen table, spooning sugar-laden cereal into her mouth and staring at the orange Post-it note on the fridge door: TODAY I WILL LEAVE THE HOUSE. Suzie’s idea. Zelda ducked under a willow branch and tried not to slide down the muddy bank. She stepped onto a level patch of ground and followed her grandmother’s gaze. Beavers had stripped the bark from a nearby sapling and felled it, blocking part of the river.

Creepy asylum corridor with dark figure in the distance
I watches em, watches their gassin perched in the tree next to B-Wing. Head jerk-jerkin as I keep an eye, keep an eye, keep an eye I do. Feet skitter on branches as I hop up and look for something wrigglin. See a flash of movin green and snap it up-like.

Alice and the Caterpillar in black and white
The man is twitching as he speaks, rummaging through his pockets. Kyra watches as he empties out bits of paper, old tissues, pieces of string. His sunken eyes light up when he finds a crumpled five-pound note, and he slides it across the desk with a triumphant smile.
